Sacramento Orthodontics & Braces
Surely, you know more than Sacramento area resident who's been there: That job interview, business meeting, or wedding where the condition of their teeth is in the spotlight. It is beneficial to smile at these times but the true benefits of an un-self-conscious smile extend far beyond these moments of visibility. Being self-conscious of that smile can severely limit your ability to feel comfortable – especially during those times when you need to look & feel your best.
A dazzling smile is only a side effect of orthodontic work. More importantly, great orthodontic work gives you clean and perfect teeth and gums, and aids in proper digestion and breathing. Everyone deserves the benefits of straight teeth and an attractive smile. And, in turn, braces have quickly become a standard dental treatment for children, adults, and teens across America. Braces can help curb future issues like TMJ disorder and tooth decay, allowing you or your child to enjoy your smiles long-term. Our Sacramento orthodontists are qualified to provide comprehensive orthodontic treatment at our Antelope office.
If braces are determined as the most appropriate appliance for a patient, the following steps highlight the major technical points of the procedure:
- Every tooth that will be braced is cleaned and prepared.
- The braces are mounted to the teeth with a bonding material.
- The bond is hardened after a certain kind of light is shone on it.
- The wires are threaded through the brackets, using the first molars as a starting point.
- Elastic or metal bands will be applied, unless self-ligating braces were used.

Types of Braces
While traditional braces involve wires and brackets attached to the teeth. The wires gradually shift the teeth into their optimal alignment. But, as you are well aware, there are many different types of realignment methods. These include:
Traditional Metal Braces
While these may be the standard braces, they may not look the way you remember them. Today’s braces have much smaller brackets and bands because they use stainless steel.
These braces are made from monocrystalline sapphire, which makes them very strong and do not stain. Like their name, these braces are clear. If your teeth are white, then they will truly blend in with your teeth.
These are the braces actor Tom Cruise wore. The rubber bands that surround the wire are the color of your teeth, which make them relatively unnoticeable. These composite materials are very strong, and will generally not stain.
Also known as "invisible braces." While not for people with more serious problems, the Invisalign system will adjust your teeth without any braces or bands. These strong plastic trays will be fitted to your teeth, and provide you the slight adjustment you need to keep your teeth looking great.
All of these options provide you or your child with the best option for your orthodontic treatment. Whether you are focusing on the cost of your braces, how visible those braces will be, or simply how long you will need the braces for.
